Step by step

  1. Spread a set of animal picture cards face down on a level surface.
  2. Gather the group in a circle around the cards and invite each person to pick one, discreetly looking at the animal without showing anyone else.
  3. Give everyone a few minutes to find their own space and practise imitating their animal's movement and behaviour.
  4. Gather the group again and invite each person in turn to act out their animal silently, while the rest of the group guesses which animal is being imitated.

Imitate natureAnimal parts

Step by step

  1. Gather the group and divide them into smaller groups of 4 or 5.
  2. Ask each group to choose an animal.
  3. Give the groups 5 minutes to negotiate which part of the animal each person will represent, such as the head, body or a leg, then practise moving together as the whole animal.
  4. Gather everyone back together and, 1 group at a time, have them silently act out their chosen animal while the rest of the group guesses which animal is being imitated.

Imitate natureAnimal match

Step by step

  1. Prepare a set of duplicate animal cards so the total matches the number of people, such as 2 squirrel cards, 2 bee cards and 2 blackbird cards for a group of 6.
  2. Gather your group in a circle, shuffle the cards, and hand one to each person without letting anyone else see it.
  3. Collect the cards back once everyone has secretly noted their animal. Agree a clear signal for the start and end of the activity. Then invite everyone to imitate their animal's form, movement and sound all at once, without speaking, while trying to spot who else might be the same species and find their match.
