Know nature · one-day course for adults

Wild Awake

Most of us pass through nature on the way to somewhere else. This day is about stopping. We slow right down, put our phones away and spend the day getting to know one small patch of the wild properly.

i need to find my place.
What you'll experience

The two days

We begin around the fire circle, talking about why time in nature matters so much and what tends to get in the way. Then we leave the busyness behind and practise simply arriving: slowing our pace, quietening our minds and noticing what is already here.

Through the morning you'll wake up each of your senses in turn: owl eyes for wide-angle vision, deer ears for listening to the layers of sound, and touch, smell and taste that most of us rarely use outdoors. It is surprising how much more of the woodland appears once you do.

After lunch you'll find your own sit spot, a place you'll return to again and again, and spend some quiet time there. We'll wander with curiosity rather than a route, following the 'I wonder...' questions that come up, and share what we found.

You'll go home with a simple 28-day sit spot mission, so the day carries on long after you've left the wood.
